MOM'S DAY!

Observation of the Day!

I have tried to think of a Mother's Day memory. The original celebration was designed by Hallmark, aided by the flower industry, to sell stuff. That aside though, it is a wonderful tradition to honor those who brought us to the dance.

The memory that sticks in my mind is the wearing of of Carnations in our lapels to church on Mother's Day. I don't know if that is or was a universal tradition. People wore red if their mother was living and white if she had passed away. I think it was a rather nice tribute to honor mothers, both living and dead. Eventually, we all wear white and remember.

In Minnesota Mother's Day coincides with the fishing opener. This is hardly a Mother's Day memory, unless you catch a big Walleye. Perhaps her Mother's Day present will be a mounted Walleye. Who says men haven't got a clue?

Have a nice day!

Samuel
